Testicular Cancer Genes
Researchers in the Everyman Centre are also looking for genes which are involved in the development and progression of testicular cancer, including the KIT gene.
They have also identified a gene that may act as a marker to predict whether a tumour has undetectably spread to other tissues. This is clinically important as it could be used to target additional treatment to those men who require it. This would reduce the need for close follow-up and avoid the potential risk of side effects in treating those patients who do not require it. Current studies will validate these findings.
